The culture, sport and shops
Gdańsk, as the city full of the culture and history, can be proud of many worth seeing cultural attractions. We can especially recommend a few of them:
The European Solidarity Centre
The institution constituted in 2007 as an object combining many functions in one place: educational, academic, museal and cultural. The ESC is a place where the exhibitions, movie displays, festivals, projects and cultural events will be organised.
The ESC is not only a museum, it is a place praising the knowledge about the Solidarity Movement. Its main task is to promote the history of Poland and Europe. The facility was opened at the end of the August 2014 in the 34th anniversary of the signing of “the August Agreements”and is located next to the “Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers 1970” and the memorable gate number 2 of the Gdańsk Shipyard.
The Historical Zone of the Free City of Gdańsk, Długi Targ 25/27 St., Gdańsk
On the display we can see pieces of exhibition from the period of the Free City of Gdańsk. It was created by Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Gdańska. The exhibits collected by the creators of the display present items of everyday use, mainly documents, passports, ID’s etc. The place is really worth seeing, if you want to feel the atmosphere of the city and get to know the life of the citizens of past-century Gdańsk better.
The Gdańsk Historical Museum, Długa 47 St., Gdańsk
In the Gdańsk Historical Museum we can find 6 departments: photographic, old art, modern art, folk art, noble tradition and musical. The piece on exhibition filling the Museum with the biggest proud is Hans Memling’s “The Last Judgement”.
